How I don’t succeed, by not starting

I love journaling, blogging, and writing. It’s ironic because growing up it was the bane of my existence and I felt like it was a counterproductive and lustful form of communication.  Frankly reading annoyed me and I not only thought it was worthless, but I expected it to be extinct by now.  OK, I admit it I was wrong, the computer not only didn’t replace reading and writing but it made it more important than ever. I can’t tell you exactly what I was thinking. People have still barely embraced the video phone.

Get Rich Quick Schemes

Many people think that some of the very lucky chosen few have and can get “rich overnight.”  We are shown from a very young age that we can pull up to a building window and yell some instructions into a box, and move to the next window where food is delivered at high speed into our car.  We then can eat the food as we drive to our next engagements.  Instant weight loss plans, surgery, and technology feed the hungry monster of instant satisfaction.  Why can’t we just type a few keystrokes and pull up to the back window and get the cash tossed into our car like grass from the lawn mower?

Why show gratitude for the people in your life

Seniors often say life goes by much too quickly.  Don’t take it for granted.  Meanwhile, the children ignore the recommendation until they are giving the same advice to their kids.  We are all born with an expiration date.  It’s tattooed in the annals of the universe in invisible ink, where the curious try to find it, but the truly alive live it to the fullest.  But why so many people do not appreciate the people who surround them, but an old adage “you are meanest to the ones you love most” and “familiarity breeds contempt”, and we just take them for granted.  It should be the exact opposite; we should show gratitude for the people in our lives.

A food Journal: A tool for figuring out what I ate, or is it a trap?

No matter what your eating program is, restricted, or not, you are still human.  As a human you must take in energy, nutrients, sleep and excrete waste.  If you take in more nutrients and energy than you use, the remaining energy will be stored as excess fat.  The good news is that this is natural.  However, unless you plan to hibernate for the Winter, keeping tabs on the amount of fat you store will be in your over all best interest.  If you effectively succeed at this step and you keep accurate records, not trying to lie to yourself, and you don’t have a medical condition that is causing the weight gain, you can and will succeed.

Be a task handler not a worker bee

The age-old question “Does the dog wag the tail, or does the tail wag the dog?”  I never figured the answer to this one out, although I have often pondered it.  Tonight, while I was folding socks, which ordinarily isn’t a big deal, but in our house, we have a basked with about 100-150 pairs of socks that people dive into and grab what they need instead of organizing them. Until, dad just can’t take it any more and the OCD finally causes me to match them at 1:30am.  I realized that it wasn’t a job it was a task, and I should allow myself to be in the moment and feel what I was doing was bringing value to the rest of the family.

Tackling the Green Eyed Monster

From time to time virtually everyone has experienced jealousy.  It’s an emotion that can and often does has devastating consequences to relationships, both social and romantic.  Jealousy tends to be a negative emotion that may display itself as anger, hurt, dependency and self-doubt. Sadly self-doubt is an expression of fear of loss.  The real mind twist is that we ourselves often create the reality that we fear through our behavior and actions as a result of our own jealousy.

Family as legacy

As a coach who focuses on family leveraged entrepreneurial spirit the work life balance can often be a confusing topic.  When we refer to family, it not only refers to the legacy of our children, but how our children interact with the world in which they live.  Teaching children that it’s not only a great idea to give back to the community in which they live, but it actually allows you to leverage your efforts to give back.
